December Full Moon

The clouds had started clearing as the sun was setting. A cold wind was moving them quickly across the sky. I had just finished walking the dogs and was surprised to see the full moon already so high in the sky. The wind was blowing wispy clouds in front of it, illuminating the dark sky overhead. The moon was peering through the leafless branches, but wasn’t quite high enough to see above them. I hurried down to the landing to get a better view.

The waterfront was mostly empty. The darkness surrounded me. I hurried to the rivers edge. The moonlit sky was reflected in the water below. Across the water I could hear the ducks and geese, but it was too dark to see them. Dark at only 5 o’clock.

The cold moon is the last full moon of the year. It is a time for reflection, to let go of limiting beliefs and consider how you want the next year to be. As I allowed the darkness to enfold me, I enjoyed the sounds of the geese and ducks nearby. The water moved calmly downstream, and as my face grew numb from the cold, I gave thought to all the possibilities of the next year ahead of me. As one year draws to an end, another is only just beginning.
