It was a hot summer day in coastal Maine. The afternoon sun was beating down with limited areas for shade. The sticky air was heavy, surrounding me. A mom with her baby ducks were swimming through summer green reflections in an ocean harbor. I had been following these ducks at Rockport Harbor through the winter when a large gathering of them were present. Then I lost track of them for a while during mating season and while the babies were being born. Later in the summer I finally found that they had returned and were swimming around the harbor again, although in much smaller quantities.

The reflections of the lush green trees surround the ducks in the water. The mother kept a close eye on me and led her babies away from me as I followed the family to photograph them. Watching them swim is so peaceful, even in the heat.
